I had not intended to make a theme cake when I got up early yesterday morning.
Rather, I wanted to make a simple cake of some kind for our Sunday night TV marathon (everything we watch, it seems, airs on Sunday). Then I planned to get some actual work done.
Ah, best laid plans.
Soon it was 11 o'clock and I was still in my intermediates (what one wears between day clothes and pajamas and which I usually only wear for the brief period between waking and coffee consumption), covered in sugar and silver spray, and wondering why I thought it would be easy to just make a sword in under half an hour.
Sometimes an idea can really take over.
Just ask George R.R. Martin.
But I have to say, the actual cake (which took a fraction of the time of the whole sword debacle) was a happy accident. I modified a tried and true eggless cake recipe to include lemon three ways (juice, extract, and zest) and gave it a coconut cream cheese frosting. There's a little cherry jam here too, but it isn't really a feature.
I don't know if it was worth spending an entire morning on. (Pretty sure it wasn't.)
But the cake itself was a big hit.
So--
Game of Thrones cake: 2
Game of Thrones season finale: 0
